I gasped as I woke up. It was like I couldn't breathe. After a few seconds I realized that I was in my new car, a 2010 two-door Chevy Camaro. My aunt had surprised me with this car after my first week of school here in Mystic Falls. Areya who normally couldn't keep a secret involving secret gifts before was really efficient at keeping this one from me. The car was just a bit off of the highway. “What the hell?” I asked as I examined my surroundings. I wore a small gray jacket and a brown long-sleeved hooded shirt and a pair of blue-jeans. I had somehow driven my car just slightly off of the road into the woods. It was close enough to see the road, but far enough off to where any passing cars couldn't see it at night.
I had no recollection of what happened but at least it looked like the car was still in perfect condition and I was thankful for that considering that I hadn't even owned this car for two weeks yet. There was one problem however, the engine wouldn't start. “Come on.” I said as I put the keys into the ignition and tried to start the car, but the engine wouldn't turn over. It was a brand new car, it should have started. “Damn.” I said as I hit the wheel, annoyed as all hell that the car wouldn't start. I decided to get out of the car and I noticed that I wasn't too far from a bridge. I approached the sign labeled “Wickery Bridge.” I pulled out my phone to call 911, but the battery was dead. Why couldn't I remember what happened?

I walk towards the sound of the crash and stop as I see a young man in a Camaro. He's probably 17 or 18. I call out to him from a few feet away. What happened? From the way his car crashed he should be dead. This should be interesting.

"I don't know.." I started to tell her. At that moment a little bit of my memory came back, although it seemed kind of hazy. I remembered picking up a couple of teens that were hurt, a male about my age or maybe a little older and his sister. I couldn't remember the specifics right away but I did remember that his sister was hurt badly.
The memory I had was still kind of jumbled but he said they were being chased by something... I naturally assumed he meant a couple of drug users that had gotten too crazy at the bonfire. I'd heard in school that some of the kids liked to have them regularly. "Rebekah?" I recognized her. She was the girl that I met in calculus at school last week.

I look at the blood staining his lips. At least you're capable of some cognitive function. I say semi-bitingly. I walk closer and look at the bright red blood on his lips. That's not human blood. Do you remember anything at all? I can guess what's happened. I wouldn't be surprised.

"I was driving...." I remembered why I was out but that didn't matter at the moment. "and I picked up some people that were hurt. They said they were being chased by something. The last thing I remember is telling them we would be at the hospital soon." I wondered what the hell was going on. I was sure I picked them up but there was almost no evidence that they were even there.

I look at him and cross my arms. Jei, do you know what I am? This is going to be really simple or really hard. I know his sister's a witch, but Jei, I don't know about him.

I was really confused by what Rebekah was saying. I was just in an accident and I still didn't fully know why. Was now really the time for this? I didn't know how to react so I just shook my head "What do you mean?" I started getting a little cautious. "What...are...you?"

I look at him and raise an eyebrow. You'll figure it out soon enough. Go home, Jei. Your sister will know how to help you. I say simply before turning on my heel and starting in the opposite direction across Wickery Bridge. I'm not a charity-worker.

I'll figure it out, what was she saying. "Wait!" I called out to her. I didn't know if she had her car or how she got out here. What did she mean, my sister could help? "Can you at least call someone? My phone is dead and the car won't start.." That was not the question that I wanted to ask her.

I stop and turn my head to the side. Walk. I'm not a chauffeur, nor a telephone operator. I roll my eyes. Your legs look to be in perfect condition. Use them. Fresh air's good for you. I continue walking across the bridge and get in my car. I start the car and turn the car around to slowly drive back into town. Damn it, I have to pass the boy. I make no move to look at him as I drive slowly by.

"Well that was weird." I said as she drove past me. I went back to my car and started to gather a few things. I didn't notice it at first but there was a necklace laying in the back seat. It was silver. The main piece of the necklace appeared to be a celtic knot with three jewels in the middle. I'd never seen anything like it. It must have belonged to whoever I picked up. I put the necklace in my pocket. So they were real. There was nothing I could do tonight. I figured I'd tell the police everything that happened the next day.
I went into the trunk and gathered a small bag of clothes. I realized why I was out in the first place. I was supposed to pick up Naomi from work at the hospital. I was already late because I stayed behind after swim practice longer than I was supposed to. She put her car in the shop that morning because it was having engine problems. "She's going to kill me!" I thought to myself as I started walking, hoping that I'd be lucky enough to catch the attention of someone else heading back into town. I couldn't wait to get home, I was starving.
