History:
Jei was born on January 27th, 1993 in the town of Grove Hill, Virginia. His parents are Ann Shinawatra and Caleb Hawkins. Caleb and Ann met a couple of years earlier in Thailand, Ann was the daughter of a couple (Ann and her mother Wandee were/are witches) that owned a mystical shop in Bangkok, and Caleb was a college student majoring in Theology. Caleb happened to be in a study abroad program in Thailand and he was drawn to the shop in his studies. Ann and Caleb fell hard for eachother and Caleb eventually bought her home to Grove Hill, where they were married. Jei was born about half a year after their marriage in 1993, and his sister Areya was born almost two years later.
Jei lived a pretty normal childhood with his parents and sister until he was 7 years old. On June 16th , 2000 while he was away at a summer camp, a number of the camp counselors and children went missing one night. The camp had to shut down because of it. Jei's parents arrived to pick him up and while they were on their way home the night after, they were involved in an car accident. It still remains unclear what happened, but when the authorities found the Hawkins's car, inside they only found one person who barely survived. Jei was unconscious in the back seat of the car with several cuts and bruises located on his body. His parents bodies were missing like the others, but there was a lot of blood located in the forest not too far from the car. It was later confirmed that the blood and DNA were a match for Ann and Caleb. A memorial was held for the couple since they never found the bodies.
Jei and his sister were ultimately left in the care of their paternal grandparents who were currently living in Dearborn, Michigan. To Jei and Areya, their grandmother Terese and grandfather Alan became their parents. Their maternal grandparents (sometimes with other family) from Bangkok continue to visit America yearly to spend time with Jei and Areya. The Shinawatras are very friendly with the Hawkins, a bond that was only made stronger by what happened to their adult children. Jei's aunt Naomi (Caleb's sister) also became more of a constant figure in both of their lives.
Since the accident, despite losing both of his parents Jei remarkably returned to being a well-adjusted child and became a pretty well-adjusted teenager. He does fairly well in school and is an avid runner and swimmer., to which end he joined the swim and track team at his high school in Dearborn. As far as his family, he also gets along pretty well with them and is usually very protective of those that he loves, especially his sister Areya.
Terese has recently passed away due to a failed battle with cancer, joining her husband who died a couple of years earlier (in 2008) in the afterlife. When Alan died, Naomi despite being a busy nurse with a 6 year old child of her own helped her mother to take care of Jei and Areya. Before she died, Terese left a very nice (and old) three-story house in Mystic Falls , Virginia in her will to her daughter Naomi and grandson Eric, and to Jei and Areya. The house supposedly belonged to one of her family members who lived there in the 1930s. Preparations were already being made for Naomi and those now left under her care to move in.
Despite the fact that Jei's biological sister is a secretly a witch, he has exhibited no supernatural powers or abilities as a warlock.
