History:
Beginning:
His parents Esther and Mikael were wealthy land owners. Who came to the New World when I plague ravaged their home. Killing their firstborn son (Who is unnamed in the show. They grew up in the village that is now know as Mystic Falls. Elijah loved his family and often spared with his brother Niklaus. Mikael highly disapproved because Niklaus was reckless. Both Elijah and Niklaus fell in love with the Original Doppelganger Tatia.
They lived in a village along with werewolves in peace. Until Niklaus took Henrik to go see the men turn to wolves during a full moon. When Niklaus bought Henrik’s dead body home the family became fractured. Esther was distraught and sought a way to protect her children. Mikael became even angrier. Esther begged her friend who was a witch to help.
One night Esther laced her families wine with Tatia’s blood, which was part of the spell she preformed. Once they had ingested the wine, Mikael pierced each of their hearts with his sword, killing them. When they awoke they were in transition. They drank blood from their victims to complete the transition into vampires. Esther was a servant of Nature, she went against Nature when she created vampires.
The sun ended up burning their skin so they needed charmed daylight rings. Vervain which was the flowering plants that grew at the bottom of the White Oak, burned their skin and prevented the use of compulsion. They were bound with the White Oak Tree in the village, which became the only thing that could be used to kill them. So they burned it to the ground.
When Mikael found out that Esther was unfaithful and that Niklaus wasn’t his but a wolf’s bastard. Esther used Tatia as a sacrifice to bind Niklaus’s wolf side. Both Esther and Mikael seemed to abandon Niklaus. Niklaus killed Esther and told his siblings that Mikael did it. Over her grave Niklaus, Elijah, and Rebekah made a pact to always stay together. So they did for awhile.
England 15th Century:
Elijah was a nobleman when he meet Katerina Petrova (a.k.a. Katherine Pierce)the doppelganger of Tatia. He introduced her to Niklaus, and also helped him with trying to break the sun and moon curse. He started to develop feelings for her. He found an elixir to save her life during the sacrifice. The night before Elijah talks to Klaus to try and get him to spare her life but Klaus refuses. On the night before the full moon Katerina stole the moonstone and fled. Klaus thought that Elijah helped her escape, but Elijah insisted that he didn’t help her. Elijah vowed that he would find Katerina and Niklaus vowed that he’d kill him if he failed. Katerina escaped with the help of Trevor when he lead Elijah away from Katerina. Katerina ended up turning with Rose’s blood in her system. Elijah left Niklaus to look for Katerina.
Current time period:
Trevor and Rose contacted Elijah because they found a human doppelganger (Elena.)Trevor pays for his betrayal with his head. Elijah tries to protect Elena from Niklaus since he found out he daggered his family, and supposedly desposed of their bodies.
